What is the Mounjaro cost price?
In the Netherlands, the Mounjaro cost price ranges from around €176 for the starting dose (2.5 mg) to €419 for the maintenance dose (15 mg) per month. These are the official pharmacy purchase prices (AIP) according to medicijnkosten.nl in 2026. The actual price at the counter can differ slightly because of the pharmacy's mark-up (on average €5 to €15 per dispensing).
At Go Leaner, the medication sits within a transparent monthly subscription: the Basic Programme (€199/month) plus the actual medication costs. For a 6-month build-up from 2.5 mg to 15 mg you pay a total of roughly €1,948 for tirzepatide, an average of €325 per month.
Important: this Mounjaro cost price only applies if you pay for it yourself (off-label use for obesity). For patients with type 2 diabetes who meet the conditions, Mounjaro is covered by basic health insurance and you only pay your deductible (eigen risico) of €385 (2026).
Mounjaro price per dose (2026)
Mounjaro is available in six doses: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg and 15 mg per weekly injection. The manufacturer, Eli Lilly, applies a fixed recommended price per dose that most Dutch pharmacies follow.
Guide prices per month in 2026: 2.5 mg roughly 220 euros, 5 mg 250 euros, 7.5 mg 290 euros, 10 mg 330 euros, 12.5 mg 360 euros, 15 mg 400 euros. At online pharmacies without supervision the price can be slightly lower, but then you pay for consultations and monitoring separately.
Mounjaro's price structure reflects the fact that tirzepatide is a dual agonist (GLP-1 and GIP) and, according to clinical research, is more effective for weight loss than pure GLP-1 agonists. For many people, that justifies the higher monthly price.
Coverage for type 2 diabetes
Mounjaro is covered by basic health insurance for the treatment of type 2 diabetes when other oral blood-glucose-lowering medication has insufficient effect. The GP or internist writes the prescription and submits it to the pharmacy.
If covered, you only pay the deductible (eigen risico) of 385 euros (2026). It is important that the type 2 diabetes indication is formally documented; otherwise the health insurer flags it as off-label and rejects it.
Off-label use for weight loss: no coverage
Eli Lilly has registered tirzepatide for weight loss in the US under the brand name Zepbound, but in Europe the same substance is still called Mounjaro and its availability for weight loss through the regular route is still limited. Off-label prescribing by a BIG-registered doctor for weight loss is legally permitted, but without coverage.
With a BMI of 30 or higher (or 27 with a comorbidity), doctors can prescribe Mounjaro off-label. The treatment is then entirely at the patient's expense: the medication through the pharmacy, plus any supervision costs charged by the clinic.
Mounjaro versus semaglutide: price versus performance
In the SURMOUNT-1 and SURMOUNT-4 studies, patients on 15 mg tirzepatide achieved an average of 22.5 percent weight loss over 72 weeks, versus roughly 15 percent with semaglutide 2.4 mg (Wegovy) over a comparable period. The difference is significant.
Translated into costs, this means: for an average patient weighing 100 kg, Mounjaro delivers 7 kg more weight loss than Wegovy, at an additional cost of roughly 50 to 100 euros per month. Many patients therefore choose tirzepatide if their budget allows.
On the other hand, some people tolerate semaglutide better or already have a stable result on Wegovy. It is not a one-size-fits-all choice: your doctor decides together with you which medicine best suits your situation.
Costs at Go Leaner
At Go Leaner you pay 199 euros per month for the complete supervised programme: medical intake consultation with a BIG-registered doctor, blood tests, monthly doctor check-ins and lifestyle coaching. You pay for the Mounjaro itself separately through the pharmacy (guide price 220 to 400 euros per month, rising with the dose from 2.5 to 15 mg). The minimum programme duration is 6 months.
Within the programme there are no separate bills for extra consultations, urgent questions or blood checks. If your Mounjaro is covered because of type 2 diabetes, the medication runs through your health insurer (deductible only) and you pay us for the supervised programme only.
