Wegovy price per dose (2026)

Wegovy is available in five doses: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg per weekly injection. Each dose is a separate pen with its own price. The manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, applies a fixed recommended price per pen.

Guide prices per month in 2026 at a Dutch pharmacy: 0.25 mg roughly 200 euros, 0.5 mg 230 euros, 1 mg 270 euros, 1.7 mg 310 euros, 2.4 mg 350 euros. These prices apply to self-payers. If covered, you only pay the deductible (eigen risico).

Wegovy is more expensive than Ozempic because it is formally registered for weight loss and has a higher maximum dose. For those who do not meet the reimbursement criteria, Ozempic at 2 mg off-label is sometimes a financially more attractive alternative, although that is not the official indication.

Coverage since 2024: GVS criteria

Since 1 April 2024, Wegovy has been included in the Dutch Medicine Reimbursement System (GVS) for a specific subgroup of patients. The criteria were set by the Dutch Healthcare Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland) and apply to all health insurers.

To receive coverage you must meet all of the following conditions: a BMI of 35 kg/m² or higher, a serious weight-related condition (such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or osteoarthritis), and a demonstrably completed GLI programme (Gecombineerde Leefstijl Interventie, combined lifestyle intervention) of at least two years in which the intended weight loss was not achieved.

In addition, you must continue to take part in a structured lifestyle programme during Wegovy treatment. This is part of the treatment plan drawn up by the doctor and claimed by the pharmacy.

GLI programme as a condition

The combined lifestyle intervention (GLI) is a two-year programme covered by basic health insurance. It consists of personal coaching on nutrition, exercise and behaviour, guided by a lifestyle coach or dietitian. Your GP can refer you.

For Wegovy coverage you must have completed this GLI programme in full without sufficient results (usually defined as less than 5 percent weight loss). Only then do you qualify for additional drug treatment with Wegovy.

In practice, this means that well over two years can pass between your first step (GP referral to GLI) and starting Wegovy. For people who want to start sooner, a private programme at an obesity clinic is an alternative, albeit at your own expense.

What if you do not meet the criteria?

If you do not meet the GVS criteria (for example a BMI between 27 and 35, or no prior GLI programme), Wegovy is only available at your own expense. A specialised clinic such as Go Leaner can help you with a medically responsible programme without first having to complete two years of GLI.

An alternative is off-label Ozempic or Mounjaro, which a BIG-registered doctor can prescribe for weight loss. These medicines are not formally registered for weight loss but are widely used in practice, with comparable or better results.

Costs at Go Leaner

At Go Leaner you pay 199 euros per month for the complete supervised programme: medical intake consultation with a BIG-registered doctor, blood tests, monthly doctor check-ins and lifestyle coaching. You pay for the Wegovy itself separately through the pharmacy (guide price 200 to 350 euros per month, rising with the dose up to 2.4 mg). The minimum programme duration is 6 months.

We support you in applying for GVS coverage if you meet the criteria — in that case you only pay the deductible (eigen risico) for the medication and our programme fee of 199 euros per month remains.
